For those like me who tried all the other suggestions and UOS still would not work. Here is another possible solution that DID work for me!

Gil informed that he turned off all his "start on startup" programs and UOS started to work for him. I did the same (although I did not turn off everything i.e virus protection programs) and it seems to work for me as well! I do not need to start UOS immediately on startup. I can open it whenever I want.

Hope this helps!

Game on!!!

Heya! I thought I saw a thread where you asked us to post artis that couldn't be dyed. Now I tried using a black dye tub, not one of the tokuno pigments. It was "Mana Shadow". A robe/shroud

Sorry if this isn't that thread!

Thanks for joining the conversation! I have encountered that situation before, actually.

I love the ethereal hue idea, if that is a thing! As to the item appearance, I had originally thought it would only be same slot appearances. So only robe slot to robe slot, chest to chest, shirt to shirt etc.

Thanks for the detailed responses, you two! It all makes sense. The state of the client definitely could hinder the appearance change deeds, I forget about that.

Love the idea about the jester suit ;) (Emmalyn made me  a lovely crafted one!). Unfortunately it will have to be hidden under a robe because we can't afford the loss of the stats in that slot.

Keep up the wonderful work! ❤

You are on the right track! Thanks for the reply. What I specifically meant was incorporating some kind of change appearance deed. For example let's say I have a "Gil's Bane" robe, I could apply a deed to it and make it into a jester suit. So it has all the stats etc. of the robe, but it now appears as a jester suit. Not so much making brand new artifacts with the appearances of other things, but more taking existing items and being able to change them into what the wearer desires. I think the boundary would be the item can only change into another item of that slot, though.

Broken Things / Different Shades of Same

Hello!

I had a suggestion, and was just curious about what people thought, and if it was a realistic ask. I know you (the staff) will read it and seriously consider it regardless if it is implemented or not, and I have to say that I deeply appreciate that. Not all shards are created equal, and you all go far above and beyond.

I have played half a dozen or more shards before finding a home here, and the majority of those I always find characters running around looking different shades of same. The meta always dictates what people wear and then they cascade some dyes over themselves to differentiate. I miss the clash of identities stretching back to OSI (and I know we are NOT nor should we become UO). Personally, I love to run around in a skirt, jester-suit, and jesterhat (*wink*) with some sandals or thigh boots. I have once been able to achieve this, but it was locked behind a pretty big paywall.

My thoughts on how to achieve this: Perhaps create item appearance change deeds for our gear. I have no idea if it would be a base change for any item or create a sliding scale, like some for clothing others for armor, what have you. I don't know how that works. Perhaps with a caveat that the item being changed is then bounded to the character (or account). That way people aren't randomly changing things, its more of a serious and intentional change. If the object was an artifact (which it probably will be) it can still be handed in for token exchange.

I hope this was clear, and I apologize if it wasn't. I am not saying the meta here necessarily dictates what people wear/use but more often than not its going to be (hooded) robes and a cloak. The sashes the doublets the footwear etc. are all lost. No more people running around in full armor suits with a sash and kilt because we need the stats provided by the robe. I am rambling now.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts on this and if not my exact suggestion, but perhaps a change with regard to the spirit of what I am suggesting, is possible!

Thanks for everything. <3

I will check. But currently the working solution that has been suggested is to reboot your PC and immediately open UOS before your computer has fully booted up. This has worked for a few people, and apparently is a lasting solution. Id like to see if it works for others who are having issues.

They are truly amazing. This shard gives you just enough to be comfortable but challenging enough to keep you on yyour toes. Im glad items arent hidden behind behind a paywall. Im looking forward to my first donation to show the love and get me some of those addons!! >:-)
